State Universities Annuitants Association (SUAA)

I am delighted that we finally have our own web-page!  A friend of my older step-son set this up for us, and says that he will keep it up-dated for us.  Now those of you who have computers can easily access current information about both SUAA and CLCAA, as well as directly e-mail your own state senator and legislator from this site, provided he/she has one.  You will also find on the “Informational Pages” a list of all our Federal and State Legislators, with addresses and phone numbers to contact them.  Also included is a copy of our official letter-head stationary, and a membership application form for 2007-2008.  Other links will be added in the future, such as a directory of current members.  Please bookmark this web site for easy access anytime.  For those of our members without computers, we will continue to send hard copies of information posted here by postal mail.

A new Executive Director of SUAA has recently been hired to replace Don Naylor, who has retired after many years of dedicated service to SUAA.  Her name is Linda Brookhart, who comes to us with an impressive record of past accomplishments.  SUAA also has hired Christine Bailey to deal strictly with membership concerns, since our numbers keep growing, and more time is required to keep membership information updated.  SUAA has over 15,000 members now, while our chapter can boast of 242 members in the 2006-07 fiscal year.   If you are currently a CLCAA member, you will be notified by SUAA to continue your membership.  If you are a “dues diction” member, your dues will automatically continue to be deducted.  If your membership has elapsed, or if you wish to join us, please complete the Membership Application Form.

The most important and challenging charge that SUAA is currently taking on is SUAACTION – meant to become THE political arm of our organization!  Through voluntary donations, SUAACTION hopes to raise at least $100,000 by October, 2007, as a first goal to reach so we can help fund the campaigns of legislative candidates for office who are understanding and supportive of our interests.  In our March Newsletter an envelope was included for members to make a voluntary contribution to this cause.  So far, the response has been very positive, and we strongly encourage those of you who have not yet contributed, as well as those who have, to contribute as soon as you possibly can.  Make checks out to SUAACTION, and mail hem to:

On Friday, April 27, our Annual Chapter General Meeting took place at CLC.   Nancy Cook was elected President, Mike Corn, Vice President; Nancy DeMuro, secretary, and Fran’O’Hern and Barb Richardson, Members-At-Large.  I will serve the honorary office of Immediate Past President.  Jim Beaudoin, Sue Lanius and Marv Johnson will continue in their role as Treasurer and Members-At-Large, respectively   A slight change in the constitution description of the Secretary’s job-description: the secretary now has the sole responsibility of keeping our membership records and mailing labels as up-to-date as possible.  Congratulation to you all!
